Discord
The course uses the Digital Media Discord, a closed community for GCC Digital Media students, for questions, critique and announcements. Course material and grades stay in Canvas; Discord is where the class talks about the work.
Join the Course Channel
- Open the invite: Digital Media Discord invite.
- Create a Discord account or sign in. Use Discord in a web browser or install it from discord.com/download.
- Find #avc248-design-self-promotion in the channel list.
- Set your server nickname to the name you want to be called. Screen names are allowed.
- Add a profile photo or avatar.
Channel Rules
- Questions go in the course channel, not direct messages, so everyone benefits from the answer.
- Critique comments name something specific in the work: a project, a line, a type or color choice, or a requirement.
- For video, post a link (unlisted YouTube or Google Drive), not the file. For two-dimensional work, post a PNG, JPG or a PDF exported for screen. Never post native Photoshop or InDesign files.
- Add alt text to every image you post: click the pencil icon on the attachment before you send it and write one or two sentences on what matters. Video and audio posts need corrected captions or a transcript.
- Follow Netiquette.
Discord’s privacy policy and accessibility features apply to the server. If Discord does not work with your assistive technology, message your instructor through Canvas Inbox and an equivalent is set up.
