Step 3: Build and Test Your Agent
This assignment measures Module Objective 8.3, which supports Course Competency 1.
Objectives
- 8.3 Test your agent against its own rules across three runs and judge which rules to revise from the evidence. (Course Competency 1)
Overview
Now the plan becomes an agent. You will save your plan as a reusable Gemini skill (a saved set of instructions you can call in any chat), run it, and check every result against your own rules. Most first versions get something wrong. Finding that is the point of testing.
Instructions
- Write the instructions. Open your rules file from Step 2 and add, at the top, the opening line from the example: “You are my career agent. Follow every rule below exactly. Never include a result you have not checked.” Keep this Doc; it is your master copy.
- Save it as a Gemini skill. In the Gemini app, create a new skill, name it (for example, “Avery’s Job Agent”), and paste your instructions. See Google’s help page on skills. If skills are not on your account yet, paste the Doc into a new chat each time; it works the same way.
- Test run 1. Run the agent. For every result, open the link yourself and check it against your rules. Record each result in a test log: kept, should have been cut, or broken link.
- Revise. For every miss, change one rule in your Doc so the miss cannot happen again. Write what you changed and why. Update the skill.
- Test runs 2 and 3. Run it twice more, revising after each. By run 3, every result should pass your own rules.
- Check privacy. Your instructions should not contain your home address, phone number, student ID or anything you would not put on a public resume.
Accessibility
Use real heading styles in your Google Doc (Format, Paragraph styles), keep text contrast high, and add alt text to every image (right-click the image, then Alt text). If your Discord post includes an image, add alt text: click the pencil icon on the attachment and fill in the description with one or two sentences on what matters in it. If it includes audio or video, add a corrected transcript or captions.
Submission
Submit the Google Doc with your final instructions, the test log for all three runs, and the list of changes. Post your run 3 results to Discord the day before the deadline and comment on three classmates’ results: would you trust this agent?
