Final Leave-Behind

This assignment measures Module Objective 8.2, which supports Course Competency 3.

Objectives

• 8.2 Produce a print-ready PDF or a working digital leave-behind that follows your concept and identity system. (Course Competency 3)

Overview

This is the finished, production-ready version of the concept you developed in Module 3, consistent with the rest of your identity package.

10 points, Process Work. About 1.5 hours.

Instructions

1. Review the critique on your Leave-Behind Concept.
2. Use the same palette, typefaces and visual language as your business card, resume and portfolio.
3. Finalize the design as a print-ready PDF (with bleed and crop marks) or a working digital piece.
4. Book any lab time early. Lab work is optional, and the non-lab path earns the same points.

Deliverable Options

Finish the option you chose in your Leave-Behind Concept: a printed piece, a laser-engraved leather or wood card case or portfolio cover with an NFC tag, or an AR business card that opens your reel or portfolio. Test any NFC tag or AR layer on two different phones before you submit.

Every option is graded with the same rubric, which evaluates the design: concept, typography, hierarchy, consistency with your identity system and your rationale. The machine earns no points on its own, and a printed piece can earn full marks. Every lab option has an equal path that needs no lab visit, so the whole course can be completed online.

Lab work is booked through STEAMworks and begins with the STEAMworks safety orientation. STEAMworks supplies the materials, including NFC tags, wood and leather, at no cost to you. Booking windows and orientation times are posted in Canvas Announcements in the first week of the term.

Extra Credit, Production Ready

Available two ways. Both earn the same points.

1. Fabricate your leave-behind in the STEAMworks lab and submit photographs of the finished piece.
2. Submit a production-ready file and a written production plan covering process, material, finished dimensions, minimum legible size, color limitations, and the changes you made so the design could be manufactured.

The second option is available to every student regardless of location.

Accessibility

If you submit photos, write one or two sentences of alt text for each in the submission comments. Make the document readable by a screen reader: use real heading styles (Heading 1 and Heading 2 in Google Docs or Word, paragraph styles in InDesign), keep text contrast high, add alt text to every image or logo, and export a tagged PDF (InDesign: Create Tagged PDF; Word or Google Docs: keep document structure tags on when you save as PDF).

Submission

Upload a PDF or photos of the finished leave-behind. For an AR or NFC piece, add a short screen recording of it opening on a phone; for a fabricated piece, add the engrave file.
