Virtual Interview Setup
This assignment measures Module Objective 7.1, which supports Course Competency 7.
Objectives
- 7.1 Apply five video interview practices (background, lighting, audio, framing, appearance) to your own setup. (Course Competency 7)
Overview
Most creative-industry interviews begin, and some end, as video calls. How you appear on camera is a skill to build before your first real interview. This is also where interview etiquette starts: on time, prepared, and focused on the person asking.
5 points, Exercises. About 1.5 hours.
Instructions
- Watch Career Conversation: Virtual Interviews (YouTube). Press CC for captions.
- Photograph or screenshot your current video setup from the camera’s point of view.
- Apply five practices: a plain background, light in front of you, clear audio without echo, the camera at eye level, and professional appearance.
- Photograph the setup again after the changes.
- In five to eight sentences, name what you changed for each of the five practices and one piece of interview etiquette you will follow (for example, joining five minutes early with the posting open).
Example
Moving a laptop so a window is in front of you instead of behind you is often the single biggest improvement.
