Networking on LinkedIn

This assignment measures Module Objective 6.1, which supports Course Competency 4.

Objectives

Overview

Having a profile is not the same as networking. This assignment connects you with professionals in your field and starts a habit of engaging with their work.

5 points, Exercises. About 2 hours.

Instructions

  1. Watch the networking sections of Learning LinkedIn for Students (LinkedIn Learning).
  2. Connect with five people you do not already know: professionals in your field, employees at organizations you are targeting, or speakers from events. Send each a short, personalized connection note.
  3. Follow three organizations you want to work for and turn on notifications for their posts.
  4. Write three comments on posts in your field, each adding a specific observation, question or experience.
  5. Students under 16. LinkedIn’s User Agreement does not allow members under 16. If you are under 16, build the same content as a Professional Profile page on your Google Sites portfolio (headline, About section, experience, education, skills and portfolio links), and complete any networking step through the course Discord and the public pages of the organizations you follow. You are graded on the same criteria.

Example

Generic: “I would like to add you to my professional network.” Personalized: “I saw your talk on rigging for feature animation and have followed your work since. I am finishing an animation program and would like to connect.”

Accessibility

Write alt text for any image you post or attach.
