Interview Practice 6: Project Walkthrough

This assignment measures Module Objective 6.4, which supports Course Competency 7.

Objectives

Overview

Portfolio interviews almost always include “Walk me through a project,” and every interview ends with “Do you have any questions for us?” This last exercise in the interview practice series rehearses both.

5 points, Exercises. About 1.5 hours.

Instructions

  1. Watch 20 Questions for the End of Your Job Interview (YouTube).
  2. Choose one portfolio project. Outline the problem, one real decision and why you made it, and the result.
  3. Write two questions for the organization from Interview Practice 5. At least one refers to something specific you found in your research. Avoid questions about pay or anything on the first page of its website.
  4. Record one take: a two-minute walkthrough with the project on screen, then the two questions as if the interviewer just asked whether you have any.

Example

“What does success look like in the first 90 days for a junior designer in this role?” “Your studio recently started interactive work; how does the animation team work with that group?”

Accessibility

Caption your video. Start with automatic captions (YouTube Studio Subtitles, Premiere Pro Speech to Text, Google Vids or Meet), then read every line and correct names, software terms and timing by hand. Automatic captions alone do not meet the requirement.

Submission

Submit your outline and two questions in the text box and the link to your recording. Record with OBS Studio or any recorder you set up in Technology Setup. Upload the video to YouTube with your Maricopa account as Unlisted, or to Google Drive shared with Maricopa, and submit the link. If your account cannot upload to YouTube (some accounts for students under 18 cannot), use Google Drive and add your corrected caption file under Manage caption tracks.
