Discussion: Hiring Manager Portfolio Review

This assignment measures Module Objective 6.5, which supports Course Competency 8.

Objectives

Overview

After your midterm critique, you can study other people’s portfolios more critically. Look at one through the eyes of the person who would hire you.

5 points, Exercises. About 1 hours.

Discussion Prompt

Find the portfolio of a working professional in your field and evaluate it as if you were a hiring manager.

Instructions

  1. Find a portfolio from someone working in the kind of role you want, at mid-career rather than a famous name. Studio “team” pages, Behance and ArtStation are good places to look.
  2. Write four to six sentences: what works, what you would change, how the person describes the work, and whether you would interview them from the portfolio alone.
  3. Post in #avc248-design-self-promotion on the Digital Media Discord. Posting a day or two before the deadline gives classmates time to reply.
  4. By the deadline, comment on three classmates’ posts. Each comment names a specific detail in their post (a skill, a line, a project or a requirement) and adds a question, a resource or an observation.
  5. Submit screenshots of your post and your three comments, or links to the messages, in Canvas.

Accessibility

Add alt text to every image you post in Discord: click the pencil icon on the attachment before you send it and write one or two sentences on what matters in the image. Do not begin with “image of.”

Submission

Submit screenshots of your post and three comments, or links to the Discord messages.
