Spec Sheet
This assignment measures Module Objective 5.2, which supports Course Competency 6.
Objectives
- 5.2 Identify the questions, clauses and terms (scope, schedule, payment, revisions, cancellation, ownership) a client agreement must cover. (Course Competency 6)
Overview
A spec sheet is the questionnaire you complete with a client at the start of a project, so you collect everything you need without a string of follow-up emails.
10 points, Process Work. About 2.5 hours.
Instructions
- Picture a first meeting with a new client in your field. What must you know to write a project brief and quote a price?
- Write at least 15 questions covering: contact information, the project and its goals, the audience, existing brand assets (logo, colors, fonts, brand guide), examples the client likes, timeline, budget, approvals and revisions.
- Add a section of additional services you could offer (no logo: offer one; no brand guide: offer to create one).
- Format it as a usable Google Form, Google Doc or designed PDF, with space for answers.
- Gemini may suggest questions; keep only the ones that fit your own practice and log the use.
- Post a screenshot to Discord by noon the day before the deadline and comment on three classmates’ spec sheets, naming a specific question in each.
Example
“Social media handles: ________. Check these before the meeting; a client’s online presence tells you a lot about the brand before they say a word.”
Accessibility
Make the document readable by a screen reader: use real heading styles (Heading 1 and Heading 2 in Google Docs or Word, paragraph styles in InDesign), keep text contrast high, add alt text to every image or logo, and export a tagged PDF (InDesign: Create Tagged PDF; Word or Google Docs: keep document structure tags on when you save as PDF). Add alt text to every image you post in Discord: click the pencil icon on the attachment before you send it and write one or two sentences on what matters in the image. Do not begin with “image of.”
Submission
Upload the PDF (or the form link), screenshots of your Discord post and comments, and your AI-use log row.
