Description
This is the most important assignment of the first half of the semester. You will record a 2-3 minute video presenting your in-progress portfolio to a real or imagined employer. The goal is to get detailed feedback so you have the entire second half of the semester to improve.
Learning Objectives
By completing this assignment you will be able to:
- Select and frame your best work for a specific professional audience
- Present portfolio projects with clear descriptions of goals, process, and outcome
- Demonstrate professional on-camera communication and presentation skills
- Give and receive constructive critique on portfolio presentations
Steps
- Review the example presentations linked in this module.
- Choose at least 4 projects. At least one should include process work (sketches, storyboards, or design briefs).
- Write bullet points for each piece: project goal, your role, key decisions, software used. Use these as a guide while recording.
- Make sure all your work is accessible from one URL.
- Set up OBS with your face visible (bottom corner) and your portfolio on the main screen. Dress professionally. Check your background and lighting, light should be in front of you.
- Record your 2-3 minute presentation. Speak as a professional, not a student. Do not apologize for your work.
- Upload to your school YouTube. Post the link on Discord and comment with substantive critique on at least 4 classmates’ presentations within one week.
Tips for a Strong Presentation
- Show process work on at least one project
- Do not apologize for your work or say “this isn’t very good”
- Speak as if you have already graduated
- Stay within 3 minutes, concise beats long
- Show your personality

Note: these examples are longer than the current requirement and do not include a face-cam overlay. Use them as inspiration for how to talk about work, not as exact templates.
