Interview Practice 4: Weakness and Salary Questions
This assignment measures Module Objective 3.6, which supports Course Competency 7.
Objectives
- 3.6 Answer the weakness and salary-expectation questions on camera, citing a researched pay range for your target role. (Course Competency 7)
Overview
Two questions unsettle new graduates more than any others: “What is your greatest weakness?” and “What are your salary expectations?” This exercise prepares a researched, honest answer to each.
5 points, Exercises. About 1.25 hours.
Instructions
- Look up the pay range for your target role and location in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, Arts and Design, and compare it with the ranges listed in two real postings.
- Write a one-sentence salary answer that gives a researched range and the source.
- Choose a real weakness that is not a disguised strength, and one specific step you are taking to improve it.
- Record both answers in one take, about one minute each, without reading.
Accessibility
Caption your video. Start with automatic captions (YouTube Studio Subtitles, Premiere Pro Speech to Text, Google Vids or Meet), then read every line and correct names, software terms and timing by hand. Automatic captions alone do not meet the requirement.
Submission
Submit your pay research (three sources with ranges) in the text box and the link to your recording. Record with OBS Studio or any recorder you set up in Technology Setup. Upload the video to YouTube with your Maricopa account as Unlisted, or to Google Drive shared with Maricopa, and submit the link. If your account cannot upload to YouTube (some accounts for students under 18 cannot), use Google Drive and add your corrected caption file under Manage caption tracks.
