Elevator Pitch
This assignment measures Module Objective 3.4, which supports Course Competency 7.
Objectives
- 3.4 Deliver a 10 to 20 second elevator pitch and two STAR answers on camera without reading from notes. (Course Competency 7)
Overview
An elevator pitch is a 10 to 20 second spoken introduction of who you are, what you do and what you are looking for. You will use it at networking events, in interviews and on your LinkedIn and portfolio profiles.
10 points, Process Work. About 2 hours.
Instructions
- Read How to Give an Elevator Pitch, with Examples (Indeed).
- Draft your pitch: 20 to 40 words. Include what you do, what makes your work distinct and what you are looking for. Write it as if you have already graduated.
- Say it out loud at least five times before you record, until you no longer need your notes.
- Record yourself delivering the pitch with your face visible and your voice clear.
- Post the link in Discord by noon the day before the deadline, and comment on three classmates’ pitches with one specific delivery note each (pace, clarity, a word to cut).
Example
“I am a 3D character animator specializing in creature and effects work. I have used Cinema 4D and Houdini for two years and I am building a demo reel for game and film studios. I would like to connect with anyone working in creature animation.” It is specific, it names software, it says what the speaker wants, and it does not say “I am a student.”
Accessibility
Caption your video. Start with automatic captions (YouTube Studio Subtitles, Premiere Pro Speech to Text, Google Vids or Meet), then read every line and correct names, software terms and timing by hand. Automatic captions alone do not meet the requirement.
Submission
Submit the link to your recording and your written pitch. Record with OBS Studio or any recorder you set up in Technology Setup. Upload the video to YouTube with your Maricopa account as Unlisted, or to Google Drive shared with Maricopa, and submit the link. If your account cannot upload to YouTube (some accounts for students under 18 cannot), use Google Drive and add your corrected caption file under Manage caption tracks.

- Hard close: Friday, February 19, 12:00 p.m. Work submitted after the deadline and before the hard close loses 10%. Nothing is accepted after the hard close.
