Description

An elevator pitch is a 10-30 second verbal summary of who you are and what you do, short enough to deliver before elevator doors open. You will use it at networking events, in interviews, and on your LinkedIn and portfolio profiles.

Learning Objectives

By completing this assignment you will be able to:

  • Write a concise professional introduction of 20-40 words
  • Deliver your pitch naturally and confidently on camera
  • Give and receive constructive peer feedback on communication style

Steps

  1. Read these elevator pitch examples and writing tips.
  2. Draft your pitch: 20-40 words, about 10-20 seconds when spoken. Include: what you do, what makes you unique, and what you are looking for. Write it as if you have already graduated.
  3. Practice saying it out loud at least 5 times before recording. It should sound natural, not read.
  4. Open OBS and record yourself delivering your pitch with your face visible and voice clear.
  5. Upload to your school YouTube (can be unlisted) and post the link on Discord for peer feedback.
  6. Comment on at least 3 classmates’ pitches on Discord with one specific piece of feedback.

Example

“I’m a 3D character animator specializing in creature and VFX work. I’ve been using Cinema 4D and Houdini for two years and I’m actively building my demo reel for game and film studios. I’d love to connect with anyone working in creature animation or environment FX.”

Notice: specific, mentions software, says what they want, does not say “I’m a student.”

How to Submit

Post the YouTube URL on Discord for feedback, then submit that same URL here in Canvas.
