Description

A business card is often the first physical piece of your brand that someone holds. It needs to communicate who you are, what you do, and how to reach you, in 2x3.5 inches. This assignment asks you to design three different concepts before committing to one direction.

Learning Objectives

By completing this assignment you will be able to:

  • Apply your identity design brief to a print deliverable
  • Design a professional business card that is clean and legible
  • Practice concept development by creating multiple design directions

Steps

  1. Review your Identity Design Brief. Your card must use the same typefaces, colors, and visual language.
  2. Your card must include: first and last name, your specialty or title, phone number, personal email, and portfolio URL (omit https://www.).
  3. Browse inspiration: Business card inspiration on Pinterest.
  4. Sketch 3 different design concepts on paper. Photograph your sketches.
  5. Build all 3 concepts digitally in Illustrator or InDesign. Standard size: 2” × 3.5”. Do not use Photoshop for print work.
  6. Keep type professional: name/title 9-11pt, contact info 7-9pt. Do not center everything, use alignment guides.
  7. Post all 3 digital concepts to Discord as PNG images. Ask classmates which direction is strongest. Comment on at least 3 classmates’ designs.
  8. Save all 3 as high-resolution print PDFs and upload here.

Example

[Instructor will share examples from previous semesters on Discord during this module.]

Key principles: less is more, type should be small and precise, and the design should feel like it belongs to the same family as your resume and leave-behind.

How to Submit

Upload your 3 business card concept PDFs here. Post PNG previews to Discord for feedback.
