Interview Practice 2: The STAR Method

This assignment measures Module Objective 2.5, which supports Course Competency 7.

Objectives

Overview

Knowing how to answer and being able to answer smoothly are two different things. Practice closes the gap. The STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) structures any “Tell me about a time” answer.

5 points, Exercises. About 1.5 hours.

Instructions

  1. Watch Interview Prep Series, Part III: How to Practice (YouTube). Captions are available.
  2. Identify the interview question you feel least prepared for, and write a three-step plan to practice it.
  3. Record a one to two minute STAR answer to one of these: “Tell me about a time you had to meet a tight deadline,” “Describe a project you are most proud of,” or “How do you handle feedback on your work?”

Accessibility

Caption your video. Start with automatic captions (YouTube Studio Subtitles, Premiere Pro Speech to Text, Google Vids or Meet), then read every line and correct names, software terms and timing by hand. Automatic captions alone do not meet the requirement.

Submission

Submit your question and three-step plan in the text box and the link to your recording. Record with OBS Studio or any recorder you set up in Technology Setup. Upload the video to YouTube with your Maricopa account as Unlisted, or to Google Drive shared with Maricopa, and submit the link. If your account cannot upload to YouTube (some accounts for students under 18 cannot), use Google Drive and add your corrected caption file under Manage caption tracks.
