Description

Now that your resume is finalized, your LinkedIn profile should reflect all the same information, and more. LinkedIn allows you to go beyond a one-page resume and show your full professional story with media, recommendations, and connections.

Learning Objectives

By completing this assignment you will be able to:

  • Synchronize your finalized resume content with your LinkedIn profile
  • Add portfolio links and media directly to relevant experience entries
  • Configure LinkedIn to actively support your job search

Steps

  1. Transfer all finalized resume content to LinkedIn. You do not need phone number or full address.
  2. Update your headline to reflect your specialty and what you are looking for.
  3. Update your About section, not ‘I am a student.’ Write in first person as a professional.
  4. Add your Skills, all relevant software and design skills. Ask classmates and your instructor to endorse your top skills.
  5. Add your portfolio link and attach relevant media (images, videos) to your experience or education entries.
  6. Set Open to Work preferences so recruiters know what you are looking for.
  7. Update any professional groups relevant to your field.
  8. Upload a screenshot of your completed profile here.

Example

Your LinkedIn profile is a living document, it should reflect where you are right now. Does your About section match the professional you want to be seen as? Does your headline position you for the roles you are actually applying for?

Tip: LinkedIn surfaces more complete profiles in recruiter searches. Aim for ‘All-Star’ status by filling in every section.

How to Submit

Upload a screenshot of your completed LinkedIn profile here. Include your portfolio URL in the submission comments.
