Description

Most job interviews in the creative industry now begin, and sometimes end, as video calls. How you present yourself on camera is a skill you need to develop before your first real interview.

Learning Objectives

By completing this assignment you will be able to:

  • Identify best practices for professional video interview presentation
  • Evaluate your own current video setup: background, lighting, audio, appearance
  • Develop a specific plan to improve your virtual interview environment

Steps

  1. Watch: Career Conversation, Virtual Interviews (YouTube). Closed captions available, press CC.
  2. Write a paragraph (5-8 sentences) here in Canvas reflecting on: one specific thing you learned, and one concrete change you plan to make to your own setup.

Example

Ask yourself about your current video call space:

  • Is the lighting in front of your face or behind it?
  • What does an employer see in the background?
  • Is your camera at eye level or looking up your nose?
  • Is your audio clear without echo?

Moving your laptop so a window is in front of you instead of behind you can make a significant difference in how professional you appear.

How to Submit

Write your reflection directly in the Canvas text entry box.
