Description
Most job interviews in the creative industry now begin, and sometimes end, as video calls. How you present yourself on camera is a skill you need to develop before your first real interview.
Learning Objectives
By completing this assignment you will be able to:
- Identify best practices for professional video interview presentation
- Evaluate your own current video setup: background, lighting, audio, appearance
- Develop a specific plan to improve your virtual interview environment
Steps
- Watch: Career Conversation, Virtual Interviews (YouTube). Closed captions available, press CC.
- Write a paragraph (5-8 sentences) here in Canvas reflecting on: one specific thing you learned, and one concrete change you plan to make to your own setup.
Example
Ask yourself about your current video call space:
- Is the lighting in front of your face or behind it?
- What does an employer see in the background?
- Is your camera at eye level or looking up your nose?
- Is your audio clear without echo?
Moving your laptop so a window is in front of you instead of behind you can make a significant difference in how professional you appear.
How to Submit
Write your reflection directly in the Canvas text entry box.
