Description

Having a LinkedIn profile is not the same as using LinkedIn to network. This assignment takes you beyond profile setup into active networking, connecting with professionals, engaging with content, and positioning yourself as a professional.

Learning Objectives

By completing this assignment you will be able to:

  • Use LinkedIn’s networking tools to connect with industry professionals
  • Engage with content in your field in a professional way
  • Build a presence that supports your job search beyond passive browsing

Steps

  1. Watch: Learning LinkedIn for Students (free, no login required). Focus on the networking sections.
  2. Connect with 5 people you do not already know, professionals in your field, employees at studios you are targeting, or speakers from events. Send each a brief, personalized connection note.
  3. Follow 3 companies or studios you want to work for. Turn on notifications for their posts.
  4. Comment meaningfully on at least 3 posts in your field this week, add a specific observation, question, or experience, not just ‘Great work!’
  5. Take screenshots showing your new connections, followed companies, and 3 comments.
  6. Upload the screenshots here.

Example

A personalized connection note makes a huge difference:

✗ Generic: “I’d like to add you to my professional network.”

✓ Personalized: “Hi, I saw your talk on rigging for feature animation at SIGGRAPH and have been following your work since. I’m finishing an animation program and would love to connect.”
