Module 5 · Your Own Brand
Your Brand Step 4: Narrow, Type and Palette
Objectives
- 5.3 Design a finished mark, typeface and palette, each justified against the client’s audience and goals. (Course Competency 4; Create)
This assignment measures Module Objective 5.3, which supports Course Competency 4.
Overview
Narrow to one or two marks and lock the typeface and a palette of no more than three colors, each justified against the client’s audience and goals.
Instructions
- Narrow to the best one or two marks and refine them. Each must work in black and white and in your three colors. No screens, no gradients; a strong mark is a simple one.
- Lock one typeface and a palette of no more than three colors, with CMYK and hex values. Check text and background pairs for contrast with the WebAIM contrast checker.
- Write a rationale of 100 to 150 words that ties each choice to the audience named in your brief. “It looks good” is not a rationale; “The audience is 75 percent under 18 and the goal is playful, so I chose a rounded geometric sans” is.
Turning it in
- Post your work to #avc183-graphic-design-1 on Discord as PNG or JPG, with alt text, by noon the day before the due date.
- Comment on three classmates’ posts. Each comment names one design principle (or, in Module 4, one brand rule) and points to where it appears in the work.
- Screenshot your post and your three comments and compile them on one Miro board.
- Submit the Miro screenshot and your rationale to Canvas by noon on the due date.
AI use
Optional: Gemini may give feedback on your rationale draft. Log it. The choices and the rationale are yours. Record every use in your AI-use log. Gemini is used only with your Maricopa account.
