Module 4 · Someone Else’s Brand: City of Milwaukee

Milwaukee Step 5: Final Revised Set

Objectives

  1. 4.1 Apply the City of Milwaukee brand rules to a coordinated poster, Instagram ad and two welcome-kit mockups from the provided brief and copy. (Course Competency 2; Apply)
  2. 4.2 Integrate downloaded brand assets at correct size, color mode and clear space, and produce a press-ready poster PDF with bleed, crop marks and CMYK color. (Course Competency 3; Apply)
  3. 4.4 Critique classmates’ work against the same brand rules. (Course Competency 6; Evaluate)

This assignment measures Module Objectives 4.1, 4.2 and 4.4, which support Course Competencies 2, 3 and 6.

Overview

Revise all four pieces from critique and present them as one complete brand application.

Points: 30, Projects

Estimated time: about 2 hours 30 minutes

Due: Sunday, March 28 at noon; post to Discord by Saturday, March 27 at noon

Instructions

  1. Review the feedback on Steps 2 and 3 and make the changes it calls for. Correct any broken brand rule.
  2. Export a new press-ready poster PDF with crop marks, a new Instagram PNG or JPG, and your two revised mockups.
  3. Arrange all four on one Miro board as a final presentation.
  4. In your Discord post, list three changes you made across the set and why.

Deliverable option: AR layer on the poster

You may add an augmented reality (AR) layer to the revised poster. When a phone camera is pointed at the printed or on-screen poster, it plays a short piece you design, such as the welcome message in motion or the logo revealed in its clear space. Build it with the AR tool the STEAMworks XR lab supports; the lab can also help you test it. The AR content follows every brand requirement from Step 1, including the credit line, and uses no AI-generated imagery. Submit a screen recording of the AR layer, 30 seconds or less, with a one-sentence description of what it shows.

AR needs only a phone, so this option is open to online students without a lab visit. The same rubric applies, and it scores the brand application, not the technology. The print set alone can earn full marks, and the option earns no extra points.

Turning it in

  1. Post your work to #avc183-graphic-design-1 on Discord as PNG or JPG, with alt text, by noon the day before the due date.
  2. Comment on three classmates’ posts. Each comment names one brand rule from the guide and points to where it appears in the work.
  3. Screenshot your post and your three comments and compile them on one Miro board.
  4. Submit the Miro screenshot, the four revised files to Canvas by noon on the due date.

AI use

No AI use for the design. Log “No AI used.” Record every use in your AI-use log. Gemini is used only with your Maricopa account.
