Module 4 · Someone Else’s Brand: City of Milwaukee
Milwaukee Step 4: Brand Styles in Figma
Objectives
- 4.3 Convert a brand’s colors and type into reusable Figma color and text styles. (Course Competency 3; Apply)
This assignment measures Module Objective 4.3, which supports Course Competency 3.
Overview
Professional brands live in shared files so every designer uses the same values. Here you load the Milwaukee palette and type into Figma as reusable styles. You make the same move with your own brand in Module 6.
Instructions
Set up Figma
- Create a free account through Figma for Education with your Maricopa email. (Figma privacy policy)
- Watch the Module 4 Figma walkthrough, then follow Styles in Figma step by step.
Build
- In a new Figma file, create a color style for every City of Milwaukee palette color, named as the guide names it, with its hex value.
- Create text styles for a headline, subhead, body and caption in Myriad Pro (or an approved alternate).
- Rebuild your Instagram ad on a 1080 by 1350 frame using only those styles. No one-off colors or sizes.
- Share the file so anyone with the link can view.
Turning it in
- Post your work to #avc183-graphic-design-1 on Discord as PNG or JPG, with alt text, by noon the day before the due date.
- Comment on three classmates’ posts. Each comment names one brand rule from the guide and points to where it appears in the work.
- Screenshot your post and your three comments and compile them on one Miro board.
- Submit the Miro screenshot and your Figma link to Canvas by noon on the due date.
AI use
No AI use. Log “No AI used.” Record every use in your AI-use log. Gemini is used only with your Maricopa account.
