Instructions

The AI rule for this project. Design History is the one project in this course where AI may design. You use Gemini with your Maricopa account for research and to build the presentation, in Gemini Notebook or by describing the presentation to Gemini and having it build it in Gemini Canvas (vibe coding). You must confirm facts in library databases and reflect on what the AI got right and wrong. Historical artwork in the presentation is always real and sourced, never AI-generated.

Time periods
GroupYearsResearch hint
11895 to 1919Look at what was happening in Vienna and Glasgow, not only Paris.
21919 to 1933One school changed everything. Look at Russia at the same time.
31933 to 1945Follow where designers went when political regimes forced them out of Europe.
41945 to 1960Look at American corporate culture and at Switzerland.
51960 to 1976Look at protest movements on both sides of the Atlantic, and at Japan.
61976 to 1989Music culture drove design. Notice what the personal computer began to change.
71989 to 2015Look at Dutch type designers, and two California magazines that broke the rules of layout.

Sign up in Canvas: People, the Design History tab, then join a group. In the text box, name your period and list three movements or designers you expect to cover.
