Module 3 · Recipe: Grids and Hierarchy
Recipe Step 2: Weight and Case
Objectives
- 3.3 Apply one hierarchy variable at a time (leading, kerning, weight, case, scale) and explain how each changes what reads first. (Course Competency 2; Apply)
This assignment measures Module Objective 3.3, which supports Course Competency 2.
Overview
Bold, italic and all caps are now available. Type size stays at 12 point.
Instructions
- Start from a fresh page, same grid and 8 by 8 format.
- Use bold, italic and all caps deliberately to build hierarchy. Do not change type size.
- Make two designs that look nothing like Step 1.
Turning it in
- Post your work to #avc183-graphic-design-1 on Discord as PNG or JPG, with alt text, by noon the day before the due date.
- Comment on three classmates’ posts. Each comment names one design principle (or, in Module 4, one brand rule) and points to where it appears in the work.
- Screenshot your post and your three comments and compile them on one Miro board.
- Submit the Miro screenshot to Canvas by noon on the due date.
