How to get qualified (the real path)
Good news: the first step needs no school at all. Get hired at a dog daycare or boarding spot near home (no experience required) and start learning hands-on this week. That is your foot in the door and your paycheck while you decide if you love it.
To become a paid dog trainer, the cleanest route is Animal Behavior College. It is mostly online (work from home or a cafe, at your own pace), runs about 12 months, then pairs you with a local Colorado mentor trainer for real hands-on practice. It is approved by the national dog-training groups (NADOI, IAABC, IACP), so it actually counts with employers.
See the dog-trainer program ›Want grooming instead? PetSmart pays you to train as a Pet Stylist in their grooming academy, so you skip tuition entirely and learn on the clock. It is the same idea, get hired first, get trained on the job.
See PetSmart grooming roles ›A real animal job, so you can see it
This family-owned daycare and boarding spot minutes from home is hiring right now, and it is a perfect first step. They have a Daycare Attendant opening (from $15.85/hr, no experience needed) plus openings for a Dog Trainer and a Dog/Cat Groomer, so you can start at the front and grow right into the career. You need to be 18 or older with reliable transportation and weekend availability.
See the Bark Club jobs ›You do not have to map your whole life today. One application at a daycare near home, or one shift around the dogs, will teach you more than a week of thinking about it. Small steps are still steps.
Made with love, just for you. Reply any time and we will chase down whatever sparks your interest. xo
