Non-clinical counseling: career development, personal/academic concerns, stress, resilience, test anxiety. Also teaching faculty (CPD courses, FYE). Career assessments (VIPS). Crisis: connect to community resources.
Michelle’s note: Counseling mostly teaches classes (FYE) and will meet once. Crisis? Go here. But ongoing mental health: they refer out. Housing/money: go to GCC Cares.
Refer out to where?
NEEDS YOUR INPUT: which community providers?

13. Priority Verification List

12.5 Student Handbook Routing (from Maricopa AR S-6)

This is critical for CopaMigo routing. These escalation chains come from the Maricopa Administrative Regulations and determine where CopaMigo should send students. Verify these are still accurate.
Instructional Issues (grades, assignments, fairness in a class)
Step 1: Talk to your INSTRUCTOR first. Always. Within 15 business days of the issue.
Step 2: If unresolved after 10 days, go to the DEPARTMENT CHAIR (written complaint).
Step 3: If still unresolved, go to the VPAA / Dean of Instruction. This is FINAL for grade disputes.
Step 4: Non-grade issues only can go to the college president after that.

Key rule: A final grade can only be changed by the instructor of record. Dean of Students does NOT handle this.
VERIFY: Is this still the current process at GCC?
Student Conduct Issues (cheating, harassment, threats, substance abuse)
Handled under Student Conduct Code (AR 2.5.2). Goes to Dean of Students / Student Conduct Administrator.
VPAA handles academic misconduct cases specifically.
VERIFY: Who is the Student Conduct Administrator at GCC? Dean of Students name/contact?
Non-Instructional Complaints (admin office treated me poorly, financial aid error)
Appendix S-8: Talk to the employee first, then their supervisor, then written complaint.
VERIFY: Still current?
Key Routing Corrections for CopaMigo
“I’m having trouble in my class” → Instructor first, then tutoring. NOT advising, NOT Dean of Students.
“My professor isn’t responding” → Try again, then department chair. NOT Dean of Students.
“I got an unfair grade” → Instructor first (S-6 process). NOT Dean of Students.
“Another student is harassing me” → Dean of Students / Student Conduct. YES this one.
“I was in the hospital and missed weeks” → Instructor first for each class, then Dean if needed for withdrawal.
“I need ongoing mental health help” → GCC Cares or community referral. Counseling meets once, then refers out.
“I need housing/food/money help” → GCC Cares. NOT Counseling.
Fill these in first - they’re the most critical gaps:
  1. GCC Cares direct phone number and hours
  2. DRS phone number (only fax on website) and hours
  3. Campus police number
  4. Center for Learning: do they do tutoring or is that separate?
  5. Career Services: same as Counseling office or separate?
  6. Dean of Students: all contact info
  7. Where does Counseling refer for ongoing mental health?
  8. What services are NOT at North Campus?
  9. Visual campus map URL
  10. Library building name and hours
  11. 24-hour Maricopa help desk number
  12. Must new students see advisor before registering?
When done: Send this back with your corrections. I’ll update CopaMigo’s system prompt so it gives students real information instead of guesses.
