Emergency Move to Online Teaching
Adoption · Case study
A condensed training on the last day on campus, then one-on-one mentoring, moved more than 45 Art and Humanities faculty online in weeks. Most had never taught online.
Goal
The college was going remote, and there was one day left on campus. The goal was that every Art and Humanities faculty member could teach their own course, online, right away.
Audience
Art and Humanities faculty and the students in their courses.
Process
A condensed version of the full online-teaching training, delivered in person on the last day anyone was on campus. There was no time for the complete program, so it covered the two things people needed first: how to make videos, and how to use Canvas.
Then came the part that made it work: individual mentoring. Faculty were supported one at a time to build their courses and get everything they needed done.
Technology
- Canvas, for the courses themselves.
- Zoom, for live class sessions and for the mentoring.
- Google Drive tools, for shared files and materials.
Outcomes
Completed. More than 45 faculty moved their courses fully online within weeks, with one-on-one coaching continuing after the move.
